Thank you for taking the first step towards your new career as a professional hair braider. We, at Tennessee Hair Braider, Inc., appreciate you for choosing us for your 16- hour health and hygiene certification. My name is Devonja Harris, and I am the founder. I have over 30 years in the industry as a licensed cosmologist and master barber instructor.
Effective August 1st, 2019, Tennessee statutes allows hair braiders to obtain a certificate allowing them to work in or own a salon. “Senate Bill NO. 1185” was passed allowing: “techniques that result in tension on hair strands, such as twisting, wrapping, weaving, extending, locking, or braiding of the hair, by hand or mechanical appliances for compensation, without cutting, coloring, relaxing, removing, chemically treating, or using other preparations to straighten, curl, or alter the structure of the hair.”
Our goal is to ensure that you are aware of the basic requirements regarding health and hygiene. It is important to understand that this course is not meant to cover every aspect of these topics. It is purposely designed to meet the minimum qualifications to obtain registration as a Hair Braider with the State of Tennessee. Once your certification is received, it is imperative to remain knowledgeable regarding current rules and regulations. For detailed information pertaining to the certification requirements or guidelines, please visit the following:
Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance Regulatory Board of Cosmetology and Barber Examiners https://www.tn.gov/commerce/regboards/cosmo.html
